Project: Knowledge Transfer Switzerland China: Interdisciplinary Research Project Corrosion Sensors
We are trying to develop sensors by means of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). We will solve problems in the area of materials science, especially in the field of corrosion protection, which is a worldwide problem.
EIS is an instrumental-analytical method which connects the field of electrochemistry and spectroscopy analysis.
The open end project has been started in 1998. Alongside research, the project should also demonstrate the possibilities and limits of independent research in an FH (University of Applied Sciences).
The focus is on interdisciplinary cooperation, a strong point at ZHW. International contacts could also arise through working with a former ZHW guest Professor Dr. H. Yim, from YUST, Yanbian University, China. With Prof. Yim we will do research, publications and especially support for education.
The sensor basically measures the differential alternating current resistance under variable conditions between two inert electrodes. This resistance (impedance) can be correlated with qualitative and quantitative facts about the measured materials. The actual sensor should be simple and very robust, so that it can be built into any object, such as a road bridge.
ZHW participants:
