Presentation of Swiss Research Partnership Projects

Swiss Universities for Applied Sciences and Swisscontact
A development promotion program backed by SDC

Technology Transfer University Education
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Digital Signal Processors (DSP)
University of Applied Sciences Zurich, Switzerland and International Atatürk Alatoo University Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Satisfying the technology transfer at University level has become an issue of strategic importance both educationally and politically in many parts of the world. Kyrgyzstan with itsrapidly growing population is becoming an important focal point in Central Asia. The project at hand aims at using the synergetic effects of bringing various expertise from a Swiss University to the international University in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan will also be very important economically for the Swiss industry.

An agreement for co-operation between the University of Applied Sciences Zurich, Switzerland and the Alatoo International University in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan exists already. Annually one of the research staff from this University visits the corresponding University, and works on special projects (s. references).

Above project is the seed for cooperation between HSZ-T and the International University of Bishkek in the area of education of young lecturers. Due to the limited financial resources available, only two technology topics of the International University of Bishkek are selected for cooperation withing this technology tranfer project: Digital Signal Processors (DSP) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). Young lecturers of those two areas will be trained via the cooperation project. By means of additional funds, the International University should be able to build its own laboratory and establish relevant research and education in these subjects.

There are two main goals for this project:

1. Education of young staff at Alatoo University in DSP.

2. Education of young staff at Alatoo University in EMC.

The total costs of the project are approx. SFR 48,000

(HSZ-T: SFR 25,000, Alatoo University SFR 11,000, and SDC funds via the ‘Research Programme’: SFR 12,000).

The project will be finished in 2005.

This project is part of integrated efforts to introduce modern technologies in the areas of education and applied research. The construction of a fully functional laboratory requires auxiliary equipments in both areas, DSP and EMC. Due to the limited financial resources, only the education of young staff at the international University in Bishkek can be realized.
