Presentation of Swiss Research Partnership Projects
Swiss Universities for Applied Sciences and Swisscontact
A development promotion program backed by SDC
Name of Project: Electromagnetic Compatibility(EMC) Laboratory : 2. Phase of the Project “EMC Education” , Know-How-Transfer at IAAU
Short Description
An EMC laboratory for the International ALATOO University (IAAU) in Bishkek has been specified, developed, and deployed. HSZ-T realized a new, modern and flexible EMC laboratory for the special requirements of the ALATOO University. The project work packages were: Evaluation of Emission and Immunity systems incl. Measurement systems; Ordering the systems; Preparation of experiments; Implementation at IAAU and Instruction of researchers and lecturers at IAAU.

Motivation
Students as well as lecturers in a developing country actually have difficulties to get access to practice during higher education program in EMC. This project opens the doors into the industry in Kyrgyzstan.
Goals and Results
New EMC laboratory permits the integration of EMC practice for the lectures at IAAU as well as research projects. Technical as well as organisational know-how has been transferred to the ALATOO University. The EMC Laboratory is completed and used for electronic students as well as for projects from industry.
The Staff of Electronic Department and the students of 2nd , 3rd , and 4th Year have been educated on EMC. The first courses realized by N.ARI and A. Stuker from HSZ-T. There were 32 students and 7 participants from Staff.
Relevance for the University of Technology Zurich
Supporting developing countries is one of the core issues in the strategy of the applied research and development group at HSZ-T. The project is an absolute innovation in its genre: HSZ-T will become a leader developing and implementing university based platforms for EMC laboratory for special conditions (developing countries). Furthermore HSZ-T is looking for consolidating the capacity of conducting such international research projects. HSZ-T is expecting new technical (i.e. mobile-technologies) know-how from the project.
Relevance for the Int. Atatürk ALATOO University
IAAU is committed to an international accredited partner with a strong technical and organisational know-how in order to set up and realize the project. IAAU expects as direct benefit of the project better integration of students in the university’s activities, both theoretically and practically. Furthermore IAAU expects a growth of the electronic student’s after project completion. The project is an absolute innovation in its genre: IAAU will become a leader developing and implementing university based platforms for EMC in the Central Asian area. IAAU is expecting new technical (i.e. automation industry) know-how from the project. The experiments have been integrated in EMC-Lectures, projects, Diploma-projects, and research activities.
Project Duration
The project is completed during 6 months
Project Costs and requested Project Funding :
Project cost total: CHF 107’080.00 and the contribution of SDC: CHF 35’300.00
Conclusions
The presented project is for IAAU a concrete measure in order to support and better integrate students both in theory and experiments. IAAU assume the control of the new platform and guarantees for maintenance and user support. The EMC laboratory is in the mean of IAAU the first step towards better integrating students in education.
