r4d.ch: Evaluation and Receipt of Pre-proposals
Two evaluation panels of the r4d.ch programme have examined and assessed the pre-proposals submitted for the two modules "Social Conflicts" and "Thematically Open Research". In addition, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has received 12 pre-proposals for the module "Employment" in response to the third call of the r4d.ch programme.

The submitted pre-proposals for the two modules "Social Conflicts" and "Thematically Open Research" were peer-reviewed by external experts and, based on these reviews, carefully evaluated and discussed by two panels, each consisting of eight experts from abroad; the main evaluation criteria were scientific quality and relevance for development.

Social Conflicts
From a total of 22 submitted pre-proposals, seven project teams consisting of Swiss researchers and their research partners coming from the global south received an invitation to submit a research proposal. The total funding requested in the seven pre-proposals amounts to CHF 21 million, whereas the thematic module has a budget of approximately CHF 14.1 million for six years of research.

Thematically Open Research
From a total of 59 submitted pre-proposals, 22 project teams consisting of Swiss researchers and their research partners coming from the global south received an invitation to submit a research proposal. The total funding requested in the 22 pre-proposals amounts to CHF 10 million, whereas the Thematically Open Research module has a budget of approximately CHF 5.9 million for three years of research.

Employment
In response to the third call, the SNSF has received 12 pre-proposals. The research budget for "Employment" amounts to CHF 14.1 million. Until April 2013, the submitted project outlines will be evaluated by external reviewers and an international review panel. At the end of April 2013, the SNSF will invite researchers whose project was selected for the second phase to submit a research proposal.
