Future Earth announces inaugural science committee
Future Earth is a major 10-year international research programme which aims to provide the critical knowledge needed to address the challenges of global environmental change and to identify opportunities for a transition to global sustainability. The 18-member science committee - the first Future Earth governance body to be appointed - will make recommendations on projects and priorities for research. Heinz Gutscher president of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences and ProClim- is a member of this commitee.

Master Professionnel en innovation et développement en milieu rural
Le Président de l’Université de Ouagadougou porte à la connaissance du public le recrutement de la troisième promotion du Master Professionnel International en Innovation et Développement en milieu rural (AGRINOVIA) par l’Unité de Formation et de Recherche en Sciences Humaines (UFS/SH). La formation, de niveau Master 2, assurée par des binômes pédagogiques sus-sud, nord-sud, universitaires-opérateurs de développement, comprend une phase intensive (du 1er octobre au 20 décembre 2013) et une phase terrain (de janvier à mai 2014). La durée totale de la formation est de 8 mois.

The Elsevier Foundation Calls for 2013 New Scholars and Innovative Libraries Projects
The Elsevier Foundation is seeking new grant proposals for the 2013 New Scholars and Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries programs. The deadline for applications is June 24th 2013. Grants will be awarded in December 2013 and provideone, two and three year awards between US$ 5,000 to US$ 50,000 per year for a total of US$ 100,000. The Elsevier Foundation will accept 1 page applications from May 6th through June 24th via www.elsevierfoundation.org. Forty shortlisted applications will be invited to submit full proposals by September 3rd.

French Centre to use Research as Tool for Development
France's national centre for agricultural research for development (CIRAD) plans to set up more local partnerships to study topics agreed with organisations in developing countries "for the benefit of the world's poorest people and with a view to ensuring sustainable development". Wie beeinflussen globale Umweltveränderungen und insbesondere der Klimawandel die Migrationsströme in und aus den Entwicklungsländern? Die Akademien der Wissenschaften Schweiz fassen den Stand des Wissens in einem soeben publizierten Faktenblatt zusammen. Die meisten Studien lassen darauf schliessen, dass die Schweiz nicht von grossen Wellen von Umweltflüchtlingen überrollt werden wird. Bevölkerungsbewegungen, die durch klimatische Faktoren ausgelöst werden, finden vor allem über kleine Distanzen statt – innerhalb von Staaten und, in geringerem Umfang, zwischen benachbarten Staaten. Die Herausforderungen für die Schweiz liegen vor allem in der Hilfe vor Ort.
