12.06.2012 | Environment | Meetings, Conferences Gender perspectives in research for development (R4D) Annual conference of the North-South Centre (ETH Zürich) In the development discourse gender issues have always played an important role. The World Bank has devoted its latest World Development Report to the topic, shedding light on the progress made in recent years and the challenges to be met in the future. Gender has been recognised as a researchable issue to improve the quality of results in several fields of science. Urban sanitation and communal development cannot be adequately planned if the specific needs of women are left out. Direct links between the health and economic independence of mothers and the cognitive development of their children have been confirmed. The topic of women’s land rights is another well-established strand of research. This conference will highlight selected fields of research in science and engineering where, in recent years, the gender issue has been (re)discovered to provide sound scientific results. Location: ETH Zurich, Main Building, Audimax (HG F30) Rämistrasse 101, City: Zurich URI: http://www.northsouth.ethz.ch/news/future_events/ac_2012 |
