Presentation of Swiss Research Partnership Projects Swiss Universities for Applied Sciences and Swisscontact A development promotion program backed by SDC H S R - R / U N I C A
The Swiss experts from HSR-R intend to support the engineers of UNICA in developing tourism and clarifying the impact on transportation, ecology and the regional economy. As tourism represents an important part for both Cubas economy and the district of Ciego de Ávila ,- considering that the ecological balance is potentially in danger - ,the conditions of the development the Cuban government has requested that the University undertakes a careful evaluation of the future tourist development. A key issue for the one year pilot -study is to improve the practical , methodological and scientific issues in the fields of Transportation, Ecology and Tourism. This phase should develop the co-operation between HSR and Unica (field studies, postgraduate studies, and long term, the exchange of students and scientists). The Department of Spatial Planning of the HSR has offered to take responsibility for, and to improve the research and teaching work in the interdisciplinary fields of Urban-, Landscape-, and Traffic-Planning within a sustainable environment. Furthermore it presents a rare opportunity to engage in international co-operation - also with the Spanish speaking world and to build up mutually beneficial forms of work and culture. The aims of the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation) will be fulfilled: - to build up an international net of relationships; - to improve practice-orientated research and teaching methods;- to improve the co-operation of cultural understanding. The Swiss input will be mainly organised and executed by Peter Hotz, Engineer. The input of the UNICA will be lead by Dr. Lorenzo Dominico. In 2003, three to four workshops will take place in Ciego de Avila .The work of the Swiss expert(s) will be financed by SDC (1/3 of the total costs) and by personal sabbatical means of P.Hotz (Metron Planning SA) (1/ 3). A report will also be produced within the lectures of the HSR-R. |
