Programme de bourses "Echanges Universitaires" Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in the Context of Developing and Transition Countries The UN Millennium Development Goal Nr.7 aims at reducing by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water. In order to achieve this very ambitious goal, there is a worldwide demand for professionals with a holistic view on water issues and a specific sensitization on poverty reduction. The Bern University of Applied Sciences, Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering in collaboration with SDC, HELVETAS, SKAT, CDE, INTERCOOPERATION, EAWAG, FHNW and SHL is offering since 2007 a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) on the topic of “Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in the Context of Developing and Transition Countries”. IWRM is concerned with a process to promote the co-ordinated development and management of water, land and related resources, in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems. Participants are trained to consider water-related problems from an integrated and global point of view, derive and discuss practical solutions and propose potential activities in a local context. They improve their management and monitoring skills with regard to water projects in Developing and Transition Countries. Target audience of the CAS-IWRM are:
In August / September 2007, participants of nine different countries have joined the class instruction in Switzerland and successfully completed the Module “Cognition and Assessment”.
