Programme de bourses "Echanges Universitaires" Lecturer exchange program with Swiss German University Asia / IndonesiaSwiss German University (SGU) was founded in the year 2000 and is legally accredited in Indonesia. SGU is the first international University in Indonesia under European Management. Currently more than 500 students are enrolled and the number is increasing every year. SGU offers courses on Bachelor and Master level combining both theoretical and practical training (internship). SGU offers
*) in Cooperation with Technical University Ilmenau / Germany SGU and several Swiss, German and Austrian Universities (Technical and Applied Sciences) entered cooperation agreements with the goal to exchange lecturers and research staff (including students). The Institute for Technology Management of University of St.Gallen ITEM delegates a lecturer for temporary assignments within the SGU school of business in the year 2004. SGU needs support in the initial build-up phase (2001 2005) by qualified personnel from Swiss and German Universities with experience in Asian culture. In addition, students of SGU have the option to pass additional exams in order to obtain a degree recognized by the European Union (dual degree). In return SGU will offer interested students of Swiss Universities (Applied sciences) to pass an internship in research. SGU is still in a built-up phase and depends both on foreign faculty as well as local lecturers. Costs of foreign faculty is compared to local staff extremely high. Therefore SGU participates in support programs such as DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) provided by the German Government and “Echange Universitaire” supported by the Commission for research partnership with developing countries KFPE. The courses extend over 8 weeks in each semester (spring & autumn). 1 - 2 weeks are needed for travel and preparation/finalization incl. tests. Indonesia limits the presence in the country to 60 days for each stay with a special visa for educational purposes. Currently the following lectures will be given by Swiss lecturers
Teaching material will be made available on internet. All students have access to the course database on the SGU server. Students will prepare projects to present in class using computer based techniques. Teaching methods emphasize interactive learning. Courses consist of inputs given by the lecturer, class discussion (seminar style) and student presentations. Hence we differentiate from the classic teaching methods still widespread used in Asian universities.
