ABSTRACT
The international Workshop on social housing design takes place every year in the months of august and September in a city of an emergent country (2003: Tucumán, Argentina, 2004: Mexicali, Mexico,2005: Nanjing. China, 2006 Johannesburg, South Africa).
The 2007 Workshop edition will concern the capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi, and will take place in Tbilisi from 28th of July to 5th of august and in Mendrisio from 7th of august to 7th of September.
The group of participants will be composed by five students of the Technical University (Urban Planning and Design faculty) and five students from the Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio. The students will work under the guide of the lecturer responsible of the Workshop Martino Pedrozzi and his assistant Otto Krausbeck.
The task of the group will be to elaborate low cost housing projects located in areas of the city suitable to this aim.
Because of this reason, tightened collaborations will be established with the agencies or institutions that are or could be directly involved in the problem of the affordable housing in Georgia and more precisely in Tbilisi.

During the course specialists will take part in order to have lessons on specific arguments.
The first two weeks will be carried out at the Georgian Technical University and will be dedicated to information research and preparation of the design phase, which will take place in Mendrisio in the following six weeks.
The results of the workshop will be exposed at the “Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio” and in Tbilisi.
OBJECTIVES
Promote cultural exchange between students from different realities, confronting them with concrete subjects and real society needs.
Provide academic knowledge on social housing field to students resulting in wider professional opportunities.
Contribute to the improvement of architectural and urbanistic qualities of social housing through the elaboration of a concrete architectural and urban project in Tbilisi.
Initiate and contribute to debate on Social Housing as part of overall Housing Policy need in Georgia.
Favour the knowledge-exchange between relevant local institutions (government, university, international operators, and private sector).
Establish and promote the partnership at an international level.
