Programme de bourses "Echanges Universitaires"

Comprehensive MBA courses at Swiss German University Asia / Indonesia

Background
In the year 2000, the Swiss German University Asia (SGU) was founded as a grassroot project in Indonesia by the former rector of the UAS St.Gallen. As a pioneer project – foreign managed universities were actually not allowed in Indonesia – it received a special status. SGU was approved by the Indonesian Ministry of Education to conduct Bachelor and Master Degree programs in English. Today the university has over 1200 students enrolled and offers courses in 12 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs.

Swiss German University (SGU) has gone through a remarkable development since it was founded 10 years ago. This development would not have been possible without the active support of partner universities in Germany and Switzerland. Among the Swiss partner institutions are University St.Gallen (ITEM-HSG) and University of Applied Science St.Gallen (FHS/FHO).

Objective
ITEM-HSG (the Institute for Technology Management of University of St.Gallen) has delegated Professor Jäger as post graduate lecturer and advisor to develop the executive programs of SGU. KFPE in particular has enabled a regular exchange of lecturers, programs and lecturing material since 2004.

Benefits of this program include improvements of teaching methods and interactive learning. Students work on and present their own cases of strategy development. We also use model business cases from Switzerland to expand the horizon beyond national borders.

In addition, several events called “CEO talks” take place with CEOs of Indonesian companies. This allows a direct contact with the students and sharing experiences with senior managers and important persons from public life in Indonesia.

Research and Support
Both Bachelor and Master Degree students have to complete within 4 months a research paper as their thesis. Professor Jäger is actively involved in the advisory of a number of MBA research thesis as well as an Examination Expert in the Thesis Defense. Current topics focus on:

  • Intellectual Property Management in Indonesia (a crucial issue due to wide IP infringements)
  • Process improvements in different local industries (shoe manufacturing, packaging, turbine overhaul)
  • Strategic Planning Methods (i.e. in the Pharmaceutical Distribution Industry, Telecommunication)

Duration
For the year, Professor Jäger from ITEM-HSG had delivered MBA courses in Strategic Management and Managerial Communication over 9 weeks from September to November in the MBA programs.
