Transnational Land Deals for Agriculture in the Global South
Land Matrix partnership which includes CDE (the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern) published its first analytical report, launched on 26 April 2012 at the Annual World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty. It is based on data from over 1,000 agricultural land deals since 2000. The new data reveal a geographical concentration of agricultural land investments: just 11 countries, many in East Africa and Southeast Asia, account for 70% of the total land area acquired in the deals analysed. The main investor countries are classified into three groups: emerging economies, Gulf states, and Europe and North America. Evidence of increasing south-south investment and intra-regionalism is another major finding.

Land Matrix
The Land Matrix is an online public database of large-scale land deals. It provides a visualisation of records documenting land deals since 2000. The data you can explore represent about 50% of the entire data base. The remaining deals are being crosschecked and added, together with new data provided, on an on-going basis. The visualisations offer overview of the data as well as giving full access to the public database down to the level of an individual deal.

A review on farm household modelling with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation
This study systematically reviewed the literature to evaluate how suitable existing farm and farm household models are to study aspects of food security in relation to climate change adaptation, risk management and mitigation. Approximately 16,000 research articles covering more than 1000 models were systematically scanned . They found 126 models that met the criteria for subsequent detailed analysis. Although many models use climate as an input, few were used to study climate change adaptation or mitigation at farm level. Promising mixtures of methodologies include mathematical programming for farm level decision-making, dynamic simulation for the production components and agent based modelling for the spread of information and technologies between farmers. There is a need for more explicit farm level analyses with a focus on adaptation, vulnerability and risk. In general terms, this systematic review concludes that there are enough techniques for integrated assessments of farm systems in relation to climate change, adaptation and mitigation, but they have not yet been combined in a way that is meaningful to farm level decision makers.
